Project Quilting 16.3. Three Common Blocks

 

This week Trish has challenged us to use 3 common quilt blocks in our entry. Two years ago for Rainbow Scrap Challenge I started making placemats using this pattern that I found on a guild exchange table. 

I went back to this pattern for this challenge. I’m not good at the math needed to decide how big the blocks need to be and then cut the proper sized pieces. I’m usually not math challenged but for some reason I have trouble just ‘winging it.’

I started by selecting blue fabrics, but they were not speaking to me. I switched to browns. Browns will fit better in its destination, the GO bag in my car. There is placemat, extra napkins ,straws, etc.for grabbing takeout and eating in the car. 

I made 3 blocks. An hourglass block, a churn dash, and a friendship star. 61/2 inches by 6 1/2” each(unfinished).  I had some of this moose fabric in my stash and decided to set the blocks in the center. 

I quilted it with serpentine lines. Used a dark black and brown for the backing and the darkest brown in the churn dash was used for the binding.

Finished or Not Finished Friday. 4-29-22 and Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2022. 4-30-22

I haven't had a finish in recent weeks that I could show you. I was saving it to link to Table Scraps Challenge for April at The Joyful Quilter.   And now I can show it here. 

It's a casserole mat. Two pieces of batting AND a layer of insulbrite. It is fluffy. But I like it and it will get used'

I also dug out an old UFO project and finished it!  A fabric covered clothesline bowl!  Have you ever attempted this type of project?

And, I finished two placemats for the RSC 2022 for April and February.  The aqua scrappy blocks were made in February but not assembled til last week. When I was assembling the pink placemat I decided to assemble the aqua ones. Because when you finally decide to get your quilting/walking foot attached to your machine and wrap your head around what you are going to do, you might as well do 2 mini toppers/placemats, right?

Scrap Happy Saturday - 4-16-22

It's the day before Easter. Normally I would be prepping dinner, making dessert, running to the store last minute.  Other years, we would be making plans to meet friends at a local restaurant for Easter Buffet! Not this year. I'm not cooking, I'm not planning, we are not meeting friends. Just us at home! I'm sewing, Mr. Busy is watching movies.  Come with me over to Angela's blog So Scrappy’s RSC22 to see what other participants in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for 2022 have been doing. This month there should be lots of PINK!

Added to my Happy Blocks

Made some progress on a few scrappy sampler blocks that will be come a mini table runner or placemat. 

 2 Friendship Star blocks from some mini charms received for my birthday. These had pinked edges.....man, I don't like those! 

a block called Goose Tracks variation ....I thought ewwww!  But I want to give each block in this pattern a try at least.   Turns out I really like this one.

And a combination block of nine patches and four patches in progress.   I struggled with which pieces of fabric. The jury is still out on whether I like this one! 

The pink scraps are getting used up! 

I did finish the stitching on this little gem. It’s a free pattern at Fat Quarter Shop and calls for 10 count Aida.  Well, I’m using up scraps so I used 14 count. The sunflower is only 1.75” across., I added the word peace on the bottom myself. It’s not in the pattern  I may make a ornament to hang from my buffet cabinet knob or a dough bowl pillow.

ScrapHappy Saturday 2-26-22

Happy last Saturday in February! I’m linking up with Angela at Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2022.

 I attended a 2 day sew-in this week. In preparation I brought out some leftover Hollow 9’s. When I put this one together 

I didn’t use the Aqua or brown/ black blocks. So I put them on the design wall. Not quite big enough for anything. 

So I cut white centers and put aqua and brown strips in a shoebox tote. 

 

Now I have this

And need a few more darks, seven to be exact,  then it will be a medium table topper. Fingers crossed.

Because I can’t stay focused, I guess! I also started on this placemat project. I’ll play catch-up till I have 1 in aqua/teals, one in reds and one in whatever the March color is. I picked up this at the give away table at the sew-in. 

And I also started this! So I would have a slow stitching project. It’s not teal, like the pattern. Mine will be dark forest green.
