I’ve been MIA for a couple of Thursdays! It’s just life, you know!
The prompt for this week is about birthdays. Sometimes we had parties, but not every year. But, my momma always baked a cake and served it on this cake stand.
I’m lucky enough to own it now!
We did not often have friend-attended parties. Sometimes a BFF got to spend the night!
We were poor, 4 kids, my dad owned a business that was seasonal. My mom didn’t work, until I was in high school. For many years as an adult we did family birthdays. A meal, small homemade kinds of presents, or books, and a homemade cake or dessert of your choice. But my kids and husband did plan a surprise party for me when I turned 50! Friends and family, food and cake, balloons and decorations, that was very special!
Next weekend we will celebrate my oldest granddaughter daughter’s 39th birthday. It will be just local family, a meal( a cook-out if the weather cooperates) cards, small gifts and angel food cake with strawberries, her choice. It’s all about being together!
I took very few photos this week. It was rainy and dreary.
I finished this book! I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
One of the best books ever !
We watched a couple of “chick flicks”, Mr Busy calls them!
Anyone But You! A Rom/Com that was definitely hilarious and a bit risqué! Starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.

That's so great that you still have the cake plate from when you were growing up! Do you still make round cakes so you can use it? It's been pretty yucky weather here, too - so windy. I'm ready for some real Spring! I haven't read A Covenant of Water yet, but hear that it's good!
ReplyDeleteHi Judy. I love that you have that cake plate...what a treasure. No we didn't have parties as children but I had them for my children. Tony's 85 is in July so we are planning a splashy event then. We watched the series of A Gentleman in Moscow and enjoyed it very much. I read A Covenant of Water and liked it. Happy Weekend you two!
ReplyDeleteJudy, I have a similar cake stand that was my mother's! The one I have is in milk glass and we take it out for birthdays. Angel food cake is a perfect cake for a cake stand!!!
ReplyDeleteI think simple birthdays are THE BEST! Nowadays it seems that everyone is trying to outdo everyone else. That doesn't sound so happy to me. I read A Gentleman in Moscow and loved it too!
ReplyDeleteour family birthdays were similar...mom cooked favorite foods of the celebrant and we all were in attendance....never missed a birthday dinner...it was a love fest all around...
