Slow Sunday Stitching.

 

Sometimes you get a sign! It’s time to step away from the machine and do some slow Sunday stitching!

ScrapHappy Saturday 4-12-22

 

The yellow row is on the design wall with February and January rows!

I did the happy blocks before starting the string blocks. I was going to stop with 4, then saw the scrap of Dick and Jane fabric that had the two little girls I could fussy cut. I had to do the “sisters” block. The frame is more gold than yellow but I love it! 

4 string blocks were made to add to the single one from 2020!. I’m running low on scraps, pretty soon I’ll have to cut into fat quarters! ! ! 

Now that my RSC blocks are done, it’s time to decide what to do for Table Scraps Challenge. Yellow and Flowers! Hmmmmm??

Finished or Not Finished Friday 3-11-22.

 

I still don’t have those two small donation quilts basted.  Mr Busy is not happy about me spraying that stuff in the dining room,  so I won’t! 🙂. And we have had snow and cold, most days. This weekend is the start of DST and Sunday and Monday it’s supposed to warm up to the low 60s. Who Hoo! 

I’ll just show you this little counted cross stitch finish. They call it a Dough Bowl Filler, or Pillow as someone corrected on my I Like Thursday post. It’s just decoration. But it looks good with my March St. Patrick’s Day table runner on our buffet. The stitching is a dark dark green!  I followed Lori Holt’s video for Fat Quarter Shop on doing the finish. I needed to cut the backing a bit longer due to the longer rectangular shape of this. The wool rectangle on the back seems “naked”. I may go back and stitch the year and my initials! 

And there was a squirrel this week. I made this little tote to carry my new MacBook Pro from downstairs to upstairs and back again. I don't want to drop it ever!!

I purchased several years ago, a set of 3 canvas totes. One pink, one denim and one lime green. I took them apart so they were like this:

I also found in my stash, a Daisy Kingdom panel. Do you remember Daisy Kingdom? I used wonder under and then blanket stitched by machine. 

Next into my donated fabric tote. A dated piece of blue with pink flowers. I quilted it and attached it to the inside of the "opened canvas bag". 

Then stitched the side seams back together and stitched it with pink the the top edge of the bag just beneath the handles. It works perfectly.  I won't accidentally drop my laptop as I go up and down and can properly hold on to the railing.

Good Morning!  Hope your day is a great one! I'm sharing my likes from this week with everyone at LeeAnna's blog Not Afraid of Color. Join us in sharing your good news and checking out other participants.

This seems like a good place to start.   It came from the Food Matters Facebook page.  But the message stands. 

This is more of just a statement.......because I have no words for the pain and fear I am feeling. I can't even imagine!

I shared this one on Facebook, so my family of women would see. Sharing with you all, because maybe you don't follow me on Facebook. 

I'm reading a book that was a Christmas gift from my daughter. Devoted by Dean Koontz. There are words in that book, that I am unfamiliar with.  Like, “swale” and “archaea”. “Treacly”and “portcullis “! Back in the day, when I first started blogging, I blogged with Book lovers. There was a meme that was hosted by Kathy at Bermuda Onion that she called Wondrous Words Wednesday! I used to participate. Then life and quilting and less reading happened and I stopped. I just tried to look her up and it seems she quit blogging in 2020. At lease under that blog name.  Wondrous Words Wednesday is now hosted at Elza Reads. The format is a bit different, but go look if that interests you.

Entertainment: We finished watching 1883, looking forward to season 2. I don't know when it will air, but I will be keeping an eye out for it. 

Outlander started on the 5th I think, on Starz. I need to see about downloading Starz. They have a special right now. $5 a month for 3 months. We don't have it in our cable package. I will check to see what that cost is. 

Mr Busy is still working on his Dog Puzzle. He is making great progress. He has always been 'single minded" with a “stick with it” attitude. Not tempted by 'squirrels" like I am!  "haha"

Added Thursday morning, I forgot while writing the post!  Head slap! 

I finished this counted cross stitch, and made it into a "dough bowl filler". I don't have a dough bowl or tray, but it's all the rage in the stitching community. So I'm in!!!

This is the back, finished like Lori Holt does on her YouTube video. I need to tweak it a bit. The tan piece of wool looks naked.

This word spoke to me when I saw the chart on line. My Mom and Dad had a "song"!  Do couples do that anymore?  Mr Busy and I do not have one. Anyway, theirs was Always by Irving Berlin. Sung in their era by Frank Sinatra. I looked up the info and found that it has been done by Paul McCartney and Phil Collins.

I had an extra pie crust after I made quiche last week! So I made an apple tart or crostata. It made a mess of the pan. Thank goodness for parchment paper. It washed up easier than I thought it would!  

It was good, made even better with the addition of vanilla bean ice cream. If I do the recipe again, I’ll add a bit more sugar. 

I want to make date bars next. I found a recipe online that looks easy! If it happens and they are good, I’ll share the recipe next week!

March 1 - March 7

1. Cut batting for Ninja Friends and Chunky Churn Dash! ✅

2. Continue blocks for placemats in aqua and March color! 👎🏻

3. Use 2" squares as leader and enders to make the 9 patches for  Growing Up Odd ( I need 7 more blocks)✅ 

4. Watch for new color announcement from Angela at RSC2022 and technique/idea prompt announcement from Joyful at Table Scraps Challenge. edited: RSC2022 color for March is Yellow and Table Scrap’s prompt is Flowers! ✅

I cut the batting for the two small quilts. Then discovered my spray baste was empty! I have replaced it but have not progressed. 

I did not sew any more placemat blocks! I totally spaced out that to-do item. Doh! 

I am using 2 in square as Leaders and Enders as I sew yellow HST and Happy Blocks! 

Next Week  March 8 - March 14th.

1. Try to get 2 small quilts spray basted! It will depend on the weather.

2. Finish constructing yellow zigzag row.

3. Sew 4 Happy blocks for ScrapHappy Saturday! 

4. Sew at least one yellow placemat block! 

Hopefully I’ll have a modicum of success this week.

Slow Sunday Stitching 3-6-22

 I’ve started a new block for an old UFO project!       Several years ago, 2018, 

I downloaded the stitchery patterns for a special quilt from Jennifer Reynolds, Jenny of Elefantz! I gathered fabric. Selected floss and got busy! I wish I had kept better records. But something kept me from finishing. It might have been a new project, it might have been that my arthritis flared up! I don’t know. But I got stopped!

got me sort of back into hand stitching. 

During the Winter Olympics, I worked on this little bread cloth. 

And then I worked on this while binge watching 1883! . 

I’ve finished this into a smallish dough bowl filler. Though I don’t have a dough bowl yet! So it just on my buffet this month! 

So, back to A Year  in The Garden. I’m just getting started on August!

ScrapHappy Saturday 3-5-22

 

I’m linking up late this Saturday afternoon. I had to spend a bit of time playing with yellow! Come see what others have been doing,ScrapHappy Saturday  where Angela hosts the Rainbow Scrap Challenge! 

The new color for March is Yellow. A sunshiny happy color if we ever needed one. And it is one of the national colors of Ukraine. I'm sure there will be lots of yellow sewn this month. Some for our own regular RSC projects and blocks, but there will be some added block drives and donation quilt drives. Participate if you can. 

 

Here is a photo of my yellow scrap basket!   I think I may have to go shopping!

I was able, on Saturday, to cut 24 individual yellow squares and sewed 1/2 of them. Then cut, trimmed and pressed 4 different ones to put up on the design wall! 

Guess I’d better get busy! I need 24 HST and some Happy Blocks.
