To Do Tuesday #45

June 15 - June 21

1. Sew purple hollow 9 patch    #3  Done

2. Keep working on Geese Migration blocks.   Done

Rows 1-4 are joined and on the hall design board. I can't reach the top right hand corner of my sewing room design wall with out a stool. And I did not go get the step stool. I will finish rows 5,6,7 and then join the two triangular pieces.  That's my plan at least. 

Rows 5 and 6. Row 7 is one block and under my needle. 

3. Get label sewn on H2H Hometown Hero quilt, so I can give it to Becky when she gets home on Friday!    Done

And wrinkly! I washed and dried it to make sure the dark brown didn’t run! 

Label is attached to the corner. I don't have photos of when I gave it to her. There were too many hugs and tears!

4. Work on Table Scraps Challenge.  Done   See Friday post for more detail. 

5. Bonus:  cut more Plus fabrics for more Positivity blocks    Done

Enough for 12 more blocks. 

Phew!   I'm taking a breath and posting the ChrisKnits as soon as I get up on Tuesday.  First though, here is my list for the upcoming week!

1. Make 12 more Positivity blocks

2. Finish the Rainbow Geese flimsy and post to June OMG

3. Make 1 more purple hollow 9 patch

4. Start making purple semi-colons for Full Stop Sampler.

This is purple Saturday number 3! 

I finished one more hollow nine patch!

And here is a glimpse of another purple project. Reveal next week! 

Pinwheels, one of 5! 

This is the back! I have a large piece of this from a donation from a friend! I’m not sure whether this was from something Kari was doing or from her mother’s stuff! It’s kind of ugly, but good backing! Or cut up smaller, much smaller! 

In other news, I’m working on the green row! Row 1(the single block row) and Row 2 ( the three block row) and the top left corner are sewn together! Not trimmed yet, but I think it looks good!  Huge sigh! 

The blue/aqua row needs the end setting triangles attached and the green yellow row is just on the design board. 

 

I thought I'd share another bit of purple that I noticed again when I was taking a photo of the #3 hollow nine patch.  Just so you don't worry that I'll run out of purple!  A scrappy basket and overflow in a shoebox tote. See the bit of purple on my bulletin board?

 

This is it! A gift from my SIL several years ago! It's the cups from a Victoria Secrets bra! Stitched together to form a sort of bag or purse or what-have-you!  Beaded with some large purple beads. I hang it on my bulletin board. It holds business card and contact cards that I pick up here and there!

Funny, huh?  Purple is a favorite color and I am a breast cancer survivor! My SIL's friend makes these as a fund raiser for Breast Cancer Research!

I LIKE Thursday!

I’m back again, sharing some good stuff in my life. There is one example of not so good, but it will be alright in the big scheme of things! This list includes some things that are not necessarily quilting or crafting related.

We had horrendous wind and 91 degrees one day last week,  This pot sits up against the garage, so I mistakenly thought it would be OK! The wind just shredded the poor tender petunia blossoms. I pinched them all back, and they will be fine.

 I like how it’s looking. Dark maroon spikes in the middle for the “thriller”! All white petunias for the “filler”, and dark almost black sweet potato vine for the “spiller”!

All in a white pot! A few more weeks it should be wonderful! 

I got the Covered in Love blocks in the mail! And yes, I recycle padded envelopes. It was still in good shape and if it’s good enough for Quiltville, it’s good enough for me!

I found this on Facebook! It spoke to me! How our lives have changed in the last 15 months! Mine personally too! And life really is all about change and accepting the fact that things will not be the same!

The petunias are planted in the bed next to the porch! This is my view while I have my coffee in the morning! It’s been nice enough to sit outside before Mr Busy gets up. It’s  my favorite time of day!

This little deck box is on our small front deck….we call it the front porch!  Filled will Mr Busy’s favorite color!

And on the other side of the “porch”. More petunias and the closest bed is strawberries! 

June 14 was Flag Day! I am always grateful for the privilege to fly the Stars and Stripes and thankful that Mr Busy attached the bracket to the porch years ago. 

The photo below is one that was in some of my sister’s things. It’s a picture of our Dad, my sister on the left and me in the middle. My dad started his own business in 1950, he was pretty proud of this truck. 

I was 4 yo and my sister 18mos.  I ❤️ This photo! Happy Father’s Day in heaven, Dad!

Last week June 8- June 14

1. Make 10 more Positivity Blocks  Done

                   12 blocks done. The last one at 10:15 pm last night. Hence the dark photo. 

2. Make 1 purple Hollow 9 block  Done

I showed this on Saturday, two purple blocks done. One per week, 

3. CiL blocks Done

8 blocks ready for Covered in Love

         Packaged up—and yes I recycle padded envelopes…..I mailed it Saturday AM! 

4. Cut sashing for Geese Migration blocks and sash the blocks per the directions. Partly done

The sashing and triangles are cut! But I’ve not done on point before and I panicked. This is just on the design wall! I’ll keep going, but it’s slow!

5. Check with Long Arm Quilter to see if she will do minkee on the back of Follow Your Own Path and what her parameters are. Like how much bigger than the top, does she need. Done

       The answer is 4” on each side. And I provide the batting!

         Piled up and ready to go to Marva on Thursday.

Follow Your Own Path Quilt Parade

 This is the first QAL I have participated in. Unlike some other participants, I was drawn to this one because of the original colors Sandra chose. 

This the printed page from the pattern in Modern by the Yard, Bernatex's ezine! Issue 15 if you are interested in looking at it. 

I don’t have a large selection of solids. I’m working on changing that. But I did have a piece of aquamarine purchased for a Noah’s Ark baby quilt that didn’t make the cut. It was just the right amount for the baby quilt size. I pulled fabrics from my stash. First the purple, then the orange.  Then I remembered a stack of fat quarter solids in a project box waiting, waiting for a version of Bright Birches by Amanda Jean Nyberg. So I pulled a dark turquoise. A quick shopping trip and I had a start! 

Arrows were made.

Background was added and borders auditioned. My shadow are above the arrows! Cause that's how they happened! 

 

Borders finalized! Very bright, and I think gender neutral! 

 Backing? Maybe a piece of orange minky! 

Final bundle. Ready to be delivered to the long arm quilter. She’ll get it Thursday. I told her I’m in no hurry!  It would have been great to have it totally finished, but when you rely on another quilter, schedules happen.

Oh Scrap! 6-13-21

 

I might be in over my head. I’ve never done blocks on point before! This is overwhelming! Unlucky June 13th!  At least it's not Friday the 13th!

It seems like my setting triangles are too big?! 

Will this work? Nothing ventured, nothing gained! I have to try it!

Purple June Two weeks for the price of 1!

 

I promised myself I would make one hollow 9 blocks each week! In the color of the RSC21. Well,  I nearly failed the very first week of purple! I did not even post last week. 

I’m not sure why I’ve not been in the sewing room, except it’s COLD downstairs. I have to get Mr Busy to close the vent in the ceiling. Now that is done. As are 2 hollow 9s

I also promised I’d show you the 5th red hollow 9 patch block I made. Lest you think I cheated, here’s all five! 

I did find some already sewn HSTs using purple. They were in a big bag of fabric from my ex DIL. 

She had good intentions, but her life was going through some changes and she quit sewing. They needed a bit of redoing. So I trimmed them down to 4”. Then this. Originally I had planned on mug rugs or side table mats for the purple month. But now I like these pinwheels. So I’m dithering!  Should I add two more and make a mat for my plant table? Or just add some borders and make 3 end table mats? Hmmm? 

No Geese Migration blocks will be done in purple! It’s time to get that quilt put together!  And I finally got the directions for the purple semi colon, straight in my head. And during a trip to JoAnn’s, for batting and a couple of project boxes, I found some white on cream to supplement the background for Full Stop! More on that next week, I hope.
