Oh scrap! Of course there are scraps!

I seem to only sew with scraps, lately.  I am intent on using up my stash.

This week, I have stitched 5 string blocks:

And a bowtie block!



A string umbrella block that resembles a tree!

And a couple of pink sprout blocks.

I have also sorted my 2 containers of 2” strips. I wish I had taken photos of that, but I was too embarrassed!

This tub of strings and a couple of chunks  is still a jumbled mess.

Oh, and I have sewn really skinny strings together to make “yarn” . I am crocheting a rug!

So, yes!  There are scraps!

5th Scrappy Saturday for March

March was green. At least on my design wall there was some green. Outside, not so much!

 I was inspired by All About Strings Blog Hop hosted by Carla at Creatin' in the Sticks. Lots and lots of string projects were featured. I decided I needed some string blocks. I started with 4 green blocks. I do not have a specific project in mind at this time....but one will happen. Then I added a red block, deciding to go back and get caught up with the RSC19 colors so far. It won't be hard to catch up!  Only red and yellow to go. My colors so far have a Christmas vibe, but maybe when the others are added in, that won't be so obvious.

 I also did the Tardy Tiny Tuesday block!  I need to cut triangles to set this block at a diagonal! Thanks Angela for making the effort!  Such a week you had!

 Even my Covered in Love blocks for donating to the Spring Block drive at Kat and Cat Quilts have some green! Can you see my box of green at the back of my cutting table?

Projects Finished, but NOT really

Inspired by Carla's All About Strings Blog Hop, I started making some string blocks. The last week of the month, I have finished my other challenges. OMG, APQ, local group, even Tiny Tuesday. I was wanting to sew, but couldn't get my groove on!

I have  4 green blocks, March's RSC19 color, and am making red next. I wonder if I have enough of lighter brighter green to make 2-3 more?  They seem dark and Christmasy!

Ignore the black bow tie block for now!

Making string blocks is messy work!

Tiny Tuesday is an umbrella block.....still needs the diagonal setting squares added. Oh my, I just saw that my snowmen are basically upside down. That will have to be ok, at least it is not snowing yet outside.

Out my front window! Cold, rainy, drizzle. Fog too, but not snow!  YET!  It is predicted. Cross your fingers we only get rain and the temperature doesn't drop below freezing. We are planning a road trip tomorrow to finally deliver the quilt to my sister as she is finishing her 3rd round of chemotherapy!

And here are 8 blocks for Kat's Covered in Love March/April drive that are ready for the mail.

Two purple and two yellow CiL blocks. Based on a block called Hope of Hartford, they are 12.5 inches unfinished.

And two that are pink and 2 that are blue.



All seemingly NOT finished, but finishes  in the BIG Picture.

OMG March Finish

I have achieved my goal! It was to make 7 more rows of tumblers and then add them to the two sections of tumbler quilt tops. Actually they were more table runner size but you get the picture!

Here is the top done with out borders.

and this shows the borders. It will be a small lap size quilt, maybe to use in the camper.  I chose this flannel for the backing. As soon as the flannel is prewashed and pieced, I'll get it to the long arm quilter.

APQ March challenge

The number drawn for march in the APQ UFO Challenge was # 8 on my list. It was to do something with the second of the two Nativity panels in my ufo basket. I chose the Panel Magic pattern by Pieced Tree. These come on a small laminated card, I found mine at a LQS several years ago. It is Tiny57. I assume they are still available, but I am not positive. The panel is called A Child Is Born by Deb Strain for Moda. I have had this panel for probably 5-6 years. I used a piece of neutral from my stash, the selvage says Hand Stitched Holiday by Kathy Schmidt for Moda. It's a light beige with white cross stars. Like you would make if you were embroidering stars. I also had the red with gold stars in my stash.

I could not find the selvage, so I don't remember the fabric. It is nearly gone now.

I need to get a backing pieced and then get this one to the long arm quilter.

Green Mr. Hoot!

I was reluctant to post the photo of my owl from Tiny Tuesday this week. I struggle with "Tiny" and then you add flip triangles in 1" squares and you have a recipe for disaster. I had to trim a couple of pieces to make them fit. And I think my eyes are cut a bit big also. Can you see the left side of his head, on the right as you are looking at him, is "off"?  

But Diann at Little Penguin Quilts posted her owl and he is a bit wonky too. So I am feeling just a tad better!


I am enjoying these Tiny Tuesday blocks so far.  I posted about my sprout and bow tie blocks last week. I am only making 4 of each color so it's easy to get them done all at once.

Scrappy Saturday Mostly Green

Finally I have some green to share. March has been a busy busy month. If you read my blog you know that Mr Busy had unexpected gallbladder surgery on the 1st. He had some complications, and spent the next 3 days in the hospital. His pain levels were intense and his breathing saturation levels dropped at night. Alarming the doctors and the nurses. We came home on Monday and the next several days were pretty grim. Needless to say, I did not drive to spend time with my sister during her second round of chemotherapy. I felt so bad about that. She is doing well, better than I had anticipated. Hopefully I will be able to go the next round.

In the mean time, between hospital and doctor visits, checking on the patient, up and down the stairs, and doing regular household chores, I got these done.

4 green sprout blocks. I do not have a plan for them yet!

A green Multiply block. This one was really fun and a bit challenging for me. I always say,  I do not like miniature blocks and this one is tiny.

Five green bow tie blocks and a black one. Yes, black. I have a plan. You'll have to "hide and watch" 

as Mr Busy says!

This can happen when you try to do too many things at the same time. An easy fix, thank goodness!

And I finished appliqueing the lemon peel block from February and turned the Multiply block to the correct orientation. .

Tuesday I dumped my string box and quickly made the #2 block for March.
