OMG March Finish

I have achieved my goal! It was to make 7 more rows of tumblers and then add them to the two sections of tumbler quilt tops. Actually they were more table runner size but you get the picture!

Here is the top done with out borders.

and this shows the borders. It will be a small lap size quilt, maybe to use in the camper.  I chose this flannel for the backing. As soon as the flannel is prewashed and pieced, I'll get it to the long arm quilter.

This week has been one of starts and stops, starts and stops. 

Mr Busy is still recovering from his unplanned gallbladder surgery. It's slow going when your in the "elderly patient" category! We were sent home with a oxygen concentrator and that has taken some getting used to! Boy, is it noisy!  Making for sleepless nights and foggy mornings. 

I did manage to get the last seven rows of tumblers put together and then added to the two sections to make a square lap size top. 

Please forgive my slippered toe in the photo.   I selected 4 possible fabric for a border. I laid them out on the family room floor and took a photo, posted it on Facebook and asked for opinions. It was pretty even for the teal, the brown and the yellow. Not many liked the lavender. The teal fabric is leftover from my garment making days and I do not believe it is 100% cotton. I was reluctant to use it because of possible shrinkage problems. Maybe it would have been alright, but I was unwilling to try. So I went with the dark brownish/black mottled. 

So here is the top square ( 60 X 60) top done and waiting for backing and batting and a trip to my favorite long armer. I am really happy with finally getting it to this stage. It has been in my leader and ender box since 2015.

I also finished putting borders on this Nativity panel I have had since.....forever. I purchased it from our LQS and it has been closed for nearly 5 years. I actually bought 2. This is the second one that got borders. Now I need to find some fabric for the back and the binding. My stash is lacking sufficient yardage for both of them. I haven't been able to run to JoAnn's or out to our newer LQS since the 1st of March. (with nursing a damaged spouse).  I'll get to it sooner or later. We survived the last blizzard, so now maybe the longer days and some sunshine with smile on me and I'll have some actual finishes.

March OMG Tumblers Tumblers Tumblers!

March has come "in like a lamb" here in NE Wyoming.....according to the old adage it will "go out like a lion"  I hope that doesn't prove true. The sun shone today, and the temperature was a high of 27!  I know that doesn't sound great, but compared to -11 with snow and wind, it was almost balmy!


I wanted to get my goal posted, I will be gone all next week. I am going to stay with my sister as she goes through Chemotherapy Round #2.  I am taking hand work for the hours of sitting with her, and of course we will talk, talk, talk as sister usually do!

Several years ago I started a tumbler quilt as a leader and ender project. It was the Leader and Ender project for 2015 at Quiltville.com.  I cut and cut....using small strips to get lots of variety.

First I made lots of twosies, then made rows. I finally got some rows sewn into a sort of table runner size. I still wasn't sure how big I wanted to make this quilt. I finally just stopped at 34 tumblers wide.

 Originally I was going to put dark tumblers two wide at each end, to make a sort of faux border. For some reason, I forgot as I was sewing and then did not want to rip out or add on. So I had a "table runner"?  Then since so many tumblers were in my " already cut" box....I made another "table runner" or more like bed runner:  34 X 13 rows .


Now my goal for March is to make 7 more rows of 34, add them to two "tablerunners" to make an almost square quilt top.

You can barely see the two sections here. But 34 tumblers wide is approximately 56".  So I measured the two sections and figured that I needed 7 more rows to make an approximately 56" X 56" square quilt top. That is my goal. To make 7 more rows of tumblers and to join them all up to make the top! 

I have lots of tumblers already cut!

Darks and lights and small strips to cut more if needed. 

I am excited to get this one to "flimsy stage"
