I Like Thursday #31

Thank you LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for giving us all a reason to look for and then share the Good Stuff!   I'm a little late to the party this morning. I wrote this a few days ago and then Thursday sort of snuck up on me. 

Family:

A year ago , our oldest granddaughter and her family moved to Florida! Our daughter followed shortly after! Just days before the country went to lockdown. Sunday evening, she was hit by a hit and run driver! The good thing is, she is OK!  She was driving her mother’s car, it’s totaled, but other than sore she is fine! 

This is one of my favorite photos of her and her family!  

Entertainment:

We are making slow progress on the puzzle we are working on.

Lots of different dogs, lots of different browns and blacks. I get frustrated!  Mr Busy is goal oriented, so he just keeps at it. We've been at it since Jan 22nd!  First it was on the coffee table. Then that left sore backs from so much bending over. So we moved it to the dining room table. That's better, but now we are eating in the living room. Not my favorite......but???? 

More Family:

I took the baby quilt I finished to the long arm quilter at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. She called me at 7:45 Tuesday evening saying it was done. She needed to take it off the machine and trim it or and take some photos and then I could pick it up Wednesday. Hooray. I spent part of Tuesday afternoon constructing the binding! 

Wednesday this got done!

And it's a good thing. Noah arrived a bit early. He was due on his grandma Linda's birthday the 24th of February, but was born, just after midnight on the 15th.  He weighed 9 lbs, so he's no preemie! Noah is my great nephew.  My brother's newest grandchild! 

Weather:  we still have snow, but it's much warmer than last week. It's 13 now and sunny with a high 27 predicted.  We got just a bit of snow again last night, but Mr. Busy was able to sweep it clear with the shop broom. And the neighbor with the snow plow on his 4 wheeler, cleared the curb. 

That's all for me  this Thursday.....I'm heading back into the sewing room to straighten up!  At least for a bit, then I ll check on everyone else's I Like Thursday posts!

To-Do Tuesday #27

 

This week Tuesday To-Do is being hosted by Chris Knits.  I've long admired Chris' varied talents and projects and her ability to accomplish them.  Thank you Roseanne and Sue at Home Sewn by Us for your hosting of this party for as long as I can remember. I am new to the party....less that a year, but I will continue!  Cause it's the kick in the pants I need! 

Last week, my list read:

1. Keep working on the hexie table topper!   not done

       There it sits, just as I left it last week! 

2. Fussy cut Noah's Ark fabric for baby quilt!    Done!

3. Make Wiggle Time blocks for Noah's quilt!    Done!

In fact the quilt is done!  

And the backing and the top are in the bag to go to the quilter today!  And none too soon. I called quilter Nicki and she said she could have it done by the end of the month. That is  was when Noah is due to be born.   My brother called me not 2 hours later and told me baby had arrived just after midnight Monday!

So this week:  Feb 16th - Feb 22nd

1. Make binding and a quilt label for Noah's quilt. 

2. Finish OMG post and get ready to post it!  I somehow did not post the goal setting one to Patty's link up so I won't be eligible  for prizes, but that's not the reason I set OMG goals.

3. Get my Table Scraps for February to the finish line.

4. Not quilt related:  get my 2nd Covid-19 vaccine!!

ScrapHappy Saturday

 Still YELLOW happening here!

I made more hollow nine patches!  Roseanne from Home Sewn by Us, mentioned that she had not heard of these blocks with that name.  I found them in 2019 on The Academic Quilter's blog. I had already been cutting my scraps into 2" squares, so I knew this would be a block I could do. And I liked her quilt!  In fact, she has two, the other one is here.   The eight I made this month. 

I use the tracking sheet that is on Angela's blog to keep track every month. I print it out and keep track with pencil  and eraser!

I'm still doing Geese Migration blocks.  I was lamenting about my lack of different yellow scraps last week. The Joyful Quilter thought maybe I should re-think what was actually yellow. So I took her advice and this year's block in the bottom one. Is the solid sky part of the flying geese gold or is it dark yellow?  I prefer to call it dark yellow!

Except for some yellow on this baby quilt!....   The top row is yellow, the 4th row is actually a lime green. The cloudy weather and the lighting in my living room, doesn't do this quilt justice.

.....that is all the yellow going on.   The CiL blocks I showed last week, are in the mail to Kat. 

When I got up my phone told me it was -27F. It's warming up now!

Can you see the "feels like" is -34 degrees.....yup, I'm staying in and sewing today!

Finished or Not Finished Friday!

 

There is a quilt top finished!  

 I used Cynthia Brunz’ pattern called  Wiggle Time. It’s such a fun easy pattern. To get the wiggle, the pattern calls for strip piecing, then cutting, then rearranging. I used fussy cut Noah’s Arks. So I couldn’t flip them. But with a little pre thinking and a design wall, it went smoothly! 

Did you know raindrops have a top and a bottom? 

I had to fussy cut them too!   Although I could do four with the background strip on the bottom, then four with the background on the top. Then individually do the last 4. It was very easy using my design wall. Now I have to construct a backing and find a quilter. If I stay focused, I should have it ready to mail to the new baby the end of the month.  Fingers Crossed!!!

I LIKE Thursday #30

 

I'm joining LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color  to post about some likes and positives in my life this week.

I usually have to actively look for "the good"! 

 I like pictures shared by family! 

This is our son's companion, Phoenix.  He is intent on watching the printer in the office. DS said he walked across it on his way to the desk and activated the print test button!  Funny!!

I like when I can find a perfect unexpected fabric for a backing. Even better, is that it was gifted by a friend I've known for a long time. She was downsizing and gave me a huge tote of fabric. Not just scraps but large pieces too! 

I like unexpected gifts.  For 27 years I worked in the accounting office of a company that owned and operated a myriad of businesses.  One was a Shell Station.  Every year they give away coffee mugs to valued customers. The mugs entitle the owner of the mug to have free coffee every day for a year. Every year Mr Busy and I have received a set of 2 mugs. I've been retired from  that company for 10 years and they still make a gift to us. I count the people I worked with among my friends. I loved that job! We aren't traveling much, but we can get free coffee if we do!  

I found this on Facebook! It made me giggle! I don’t have an IKEA close! The nearest one is 5 hours away!  But I still think this is funny!

To Do Tuesday #26

Last week.    February 2 - February 8

1. Keep working on the hexies, because if I put it away it will never get done!

I got the rows all made. Started to put the middle row #3, with row #2

2. Work at completing 2 large yellow string blocks for CiL Jan/Feb Block drive. 

They are done and in the envelope to mail!

3. Construct some yellow hollow 9 patches 

Four finished...aiming for 7 total to make 12 when added to last year’s!

4. Start to think about a February Table Scraps Challenge entry!

I have a plan, and a beginning!  No photos yet though!  "wink"

To Do for next week  February 9 - February 15

1. Keep working on the hexie  table topper.

2. Fussy cut Noah’s Ark fabric for baby quilt. 

3. Make Wiggle Time Block for Noah's quilt

My focus this week is getting this top together.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 21. Yellow Week 1

 

February means Yellow on RSC21. I have minimal yellow scraps. So although, I like to make my hollow nine patches with 8 different 2” squares plus the white center, I may have to duplicate some. But I have 4 of these. I am aiming for 7,  to make 12, when added to the ones I made last year! 

I used some strings in these two blocks for Covered in Love!

I found myself harvesting the trimmed off ends  if they were 2 inches square! Crazy? Probably! 

  I’m cutting the yellow 1/2 yard in this photo for a baby quilt! There is sure to be a 2” square or two left over.  Side note, I had trouble getting the sticky label off this one. It was a gifted piece, so I am unsure how long it had the label! But I soaked it, I gently rubbed it in a a circular motion, and I pressed it with brown paper like you do crayon! There remains a bit of sticky! Any ideas!
