I LIKE Thursday #73

 I found these on Facebook! So,so cute!    CHEERS! 

Sharing some of the good in my life. Thanks LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for encouraging us to look for the good and to share it! What’s good in your world today? 

Surroundings:

I took a picture of this big evergreen tree on my walk the other day! I’m not sure of the species but it’s different than the spruce and pine I am familiar with! And the sky was so so blue!

This one too, has softer “leaves”! I’m sure they are called something other than leaves! 

This large black tailed deer spent the afternoon in the yard. His “harem” was close by! 

It looked like a UFO ( the spaceship kind) was hovering over Mt Shasta on 

I love that my guys, Mr Busy and DS, collaborated on the building of this side table. Mr Busy sits on this end of the sofa and there was no table for coffee etc. Since it is constructed of various types of wood, it will be painted a dark charcoal to coordinate with DS’s other wood furniture. That will wait until a warmer day! 50 degrees or above. It’s been damp and chilly the last several days! 

DS’s cat is doing a final inspection! 

I bought this reading/stitching light so I can slow stitch in the evenings while watching TV. It works really well. 

I started a new litte Christmas read!  So far, it’s good!  It’s under 200 pages, a Cozy Mystery genre!

To-Do Tuesday #68

 To Do List 11.30.21 - 12.6.21

1. Work on felt ornaments.✅

I got one more critter ready to attach to stocking shape. The newest  one is  a Hedgehog! He will be a lot cuter when his nose and eye get embroidered! All are in various stages of completion! 

Hopefully I’ll be able to stitch in the evenings now! I ordered this light from Amazon and it came today!

2. Continue stitching on Santa Baker. ✖️Nope 

3. Address some Christmas cards. ✅

To - Do Tuesday list for next week 12-7-21 to 12-13-21

1. Try for a walk at least 5 of the next 7 days! 

2. Make progress on Christmas Critter ornaments 

3.  Make progress on Santa Baker counted cross stitch

It’s not a big list, but hopefully I’ll be able to check them all off!

December OMG 2021

 

I have a small goal this month! Or at least it should be! 

I’m just going to focus on getting these 6 ornaments done. 

So far I have begun. 

One more step for the first little deer mitten . I’m working up to the more complex critters!

Finished or Not Finished Friday! # 72

 

I linking up with Alycia at AlyciaQuilts for Finished or Not Finished Friday.  Just a quilt little post. 

No machine with me while we are away from home, but there is needle, thread, scissors and a pattern or two. 

I'm ready to blanket stitch around the mitten shape with the deer. There is a wool felt backing piece so it makes a ornament that would also hold a gift card or tiny gift. 

 And ready to start appliqueing the bear to the stocking shape. This project has been fun, but I had to find a way to transfer the pattern to the wool felt. The position of the deer antlers and the snowflakes was difficult for me to just eyeball. I tried parchment paper ( there was some in my son's pantry). That was a fail. It's lovely to trace through, but it doesn't tear away from the stitching like tissue paper. Finally for this first motif I just used a pen. I put a dot where the middle of the snowflake would be and used a line for the main stem of the antler. The rest I just "went for it". I am satisfied.

Sewing:

Do you know what this is? It’s a thread catcher!  Link to Thread Catcher on Moda Fabrics. And it works really well. Because it’s flat, it doesn’t take up any room in your project/busy bag! 

Because I hurried, my measurements were off and I had to whip stitch this corner. But not a problem. 

I love this piece of fabric. This is the back! Isn’t it cool! 

Surroundings:

We had fog. 

Then sun and low fog. 

Yesterday morning, more fog. But 55 degrees at 2:30 when I went for my walk. 

Grandcat: 

He’s not supposed to be on the counter! 

The chairs on the table while Mr Busy was mopping. Evidently upside down chars are good napping spots!  

We’ve been watching YouTube videos on the big screen. Mostly woodworking, but I watched a few on counted cross stitch tips! 

And movies:

King Richard starring Will Smith.  5/5 stars

And Jungle Cruise with Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson   4.5/5 stars only because it was kind of silly in an Indiana Jones sort of way! 

We’re getting caught up on New Amsterdam, Walker and Seal Team. Even watching Mayor of Kingstown. 

We’ve had turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce

Turkey enchiladas with homemade salsa and fresh guacamole. 

Mucho Gustos Mexican take out

Burgers and steak fries

Homemade turkey noodle soup 

Chicken Alfredo with fresh broccoli 

Lots and lots to be thankful for!

To-Do Tuesday #67 Looking forward to Christmas!

Last week I had what I thought was an easy and doable list. And it should have been. But there was a snafu! 

 Last week’s list

1. Keep stitching on Santa  Baker! ✅

 I am really enjoying this. The cute little needle minder is very helpful. I've been watching some YouTube videos from different people showing counted cross stitch techniques. I've been stitching off and on for 30+ years and I am learning some new ideas. You really can "teach an old dog new tricks!"

2. Make cranberry salad and pumpkin pie for Thursday!✅ 

I wish I had pictures! I always make a salad with cranberries, grapes, red jello and whipped cream! It’s pretty and it’s yummy. Pumpkin pie is easy, right? Especially with frozen crusts! I’ve made dozens of pumpkin pies! And never have I ever forgotten the sugar. I’m on WW, trying to keep my 29 lb weight loss in line, but sugar free (really sugar-free) is truly “icky”. Reminded me of baby food! Blech!! In the trash, and two more pies made for Friday! Thanks goodness there was no company. Only the two most important men in my life and they love me, warts and all!

3. Start a Christmas Ornament stitchery! ✅ 

I purchased this kit from Jacquelynn Steve’s and had it sent to our son’s house. 

 

I got all the pieces traced on freezer paper and pressed to the appropriate pieces of felt. The first one, the deer on a mitten shape, is ready to start the stitching. It will be fun I think! 

I’m linking up with Linda at  Texas Quilt Gal with blushing cheeks! This old grandma and great grandma has years of experience cooking and baking! How could I make such a rookie mistake. Oh well, on to next week. Wednesday would have been my sister’s 73rd birthday! I miss her every day!

ScrapHappy Saturday.

 

This post doesn’t exactly reflect a finish of rainbow colored blocks. It is however a finish of scraps and leftovers. During Orange month,  September, I made a cat and 3 kittens using a pattern from Cathy at Crazy By Design and also from Sally at The Objects of Design.   Using a book called Toppers by Nancy J Smith and Lynda Milligan ( from 1998) , I took approximate dimensions and made a couch topper

 with a piece of fabric that was in my stash. I bought the fabric with the intention of making a bed runner for our Tuxedo cat. We lost him before I got that done. 

Long story short I finished it up! 

I made this one for our daughter’s cat. Using the same big cat pattern from Cathy, the leftover CATS fabric, some blue scraps to frame the white cat, a scrap of pink batik for binding and a piece left from a floor pillow made by her aunt for our daughter when she was a teen. 

Her birthday is the 16th of next month. So it’s ready for gifting. She doesn’t read my blog, so this isn’t giving anything away! 

So a scrappy finish is in the books! I’ll link up with Angela at SoScrappy!
