It’s the end of June! I was mistaken in my RSC post last week, when I said the 22nd was the last Saturday for blue sewing. Maybe I was thinking of only myself! Haha! We have the 29th to sew blue! I’ve been sewing all the leftovers of the blue on my cutting table! Well, maybe not all the leftovers! But blue crumb blocks were constructed! And blue 5” wide chunks were sewn together.
The chunks were laid on 9.5” x5” pieces of batting..and loosely quilt with X’s . The navy blue star is 5”x5” and quilted to a piece of batting. Then crumb blocks cut 5x5 were layered to plain 5x5 pieces, pressed wrong sides together to make 4 pockets. Those were basted to the bottom of the 5x9.5 chunks!
Then I went looking for watermelon fabric. Because the prompt for this month was “Watermelon” and blue fabric! π€π
So, I’ve been wanting a small but not too small crossbody bag to carry my cellphone, wallet, a hankie and maybe some gum or breath mints. I also have a small collapsible hair brush! You know the essentials but not all the other stuff!
What better way to use up my blue scraps! I found this Whistle Pig pattern in my pattern tote. I made the small one. It calls for a charm pack, but I cut my blue scraps and crumb blocks to 5x5.
This is what happened!
A buttonholes was attempted…..
It’s finished!
The back↗️The front↗️
And the watermelon print inside! A win-win!
Amended:Sorry for the dark photo, I’ll try for a better one this morning outside!
I’m sharing this project at Table Scraps Challenge and at Finished or Not Friday!
PS: You know I hate selfies, this is what you get!

Good job on a very useful finish!
ReplyDeletehi beautiful! I love your bag so much...great job LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteWell, look at that! So useful, and pretty in the blue scraps, too. That was a great idea, Judy - fun finish!
ReplyDeleteFun, Judy! A watermelon wearable was a great project for this month's TABLE SCRAPS Challenge (even if the watermelons ended up on the inside of your highly useful bag!!)
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute! You are rockin' that bag - looks so pretty and useful. I love the blues and the watermelon fabric. I only use crossbody bags, other bags make my shoulders hurt.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of your scraps and way to ace the challenge! Love the bag lining!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun cross body bag. I am so happy that you took a selfie with it. I always think that I look less than perfect for a photo and end up edited out of my own history. Someday it will be fun to look back at yourself with your work!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way using your blue scraps! Love your new cross body bag! We never get too many bags, do we?! Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI read your post with great interest and awe too. How clever you are to sew something so useful and pretty to boot! I always use a cross body bag-have been all my life. And you and your bag look great in the photo too!
ReplyDeleteJudy, keeping all the blues together on the outside, and watermelon inside was genius!

I'm loving the over-the-shoulder bag! I'm always looking for a new kind of bag pattern I might want to make.
