Scraphappy Saturday 24-2.

When I got up this morning it was -27 F. With a windchill feels like temp of -47 F. Baby that’s cold! 

A good day to stay in the basement, definitely warmer due to less windows, and sew! 

I’m working on some green. Nine patches, a square in a square, and some sew and flip corner that caused me to use the seam ripper. The pattern didn’t specify which way to sew the corners on the rectangles. There was definitely a wrong way! 😦

And there is a zipper block in progress. This giraffe fabric has been around since our daughter was in 8th grade Home Ec. She just turned 59 a month ago, so it needs to be used up!

Finished or Not Friday and Project Quilting 15.1.

Project Quilting for 2024 has begun. January 7th, 11:00 Wyoming (MST) the prompt was released. 

Bird House. “Think outside the box”, she said. But I could only think square house!   I explored my fabrics. There was a bird fabric, no houses though!  

I thought, a nest! I could embroider a block! Not sure I could complete an embroidery project in a week! So I decided to step back for a short while. I’ll do a cross word puzzle. Then the light bulb lit up. What about a word puzzle, like the WUZZLES that greet me at the physical therapist’s office every week! 

So. I searched for a small house block! Jenny Doan to the rescue!  

I have an extra bird appliqué piece from my Edyta Sitar spool quilt project! See it? Bottom left! 

Winter-y blues and a crossword puzzle background. 

A bit of time cutting and sewing. More time appliquéing. Then some franken-batting was cut, the bird fabric was the backing. I don’t know why I was hoarding this piece? I love it, I need to use it. 

Quilting was next, trimming and binding finished . And there you have it. A fun new mug mat for the table beside my glider rocker! I added some embroidery and a couple of beads. 

 A Wuzzle or Rebus puzzle! 🦅 🏠!

I LIke Thursday 24.2

It’s Thursday! Time to find things to like about your week! Time to share with others! Check out LeeAnna’s blog, Not Afraid of Color. 

I’m joining Project Quilting again this year. I did all the challenges, except the very first one, last year. I enjoyed it so much! It made me think and it proved that I can FINISH! Click the link if you’re interested. Here’s a peek at my project……it’s due on Sunday, the 14th by Noon Wisconsin time. That’s 11 AM my time. 

Do you have plans or desires to learn something new this year? Playing the flute or running a marathon, water aerobics? French? Finally clearing off the dining room tab? Do you have a goal!

I don’t have any of the goals or desires LeeAnna mentions in her prompt. I used to make NY Resolution, but no more. A friend shared her list of resolutions on Facebook! I laughed out loud! 

The only real goal I have is kinda personal! I want to break the habit I have of saying “what ?” Or “huh?” every time my husband speaks. Yes,  I have some hearing loss, but it’s causing an issue. It will be a hard habit to break! Wish me luck! 

And one other small goal. To leave my tablet in the living room and read in bed rather than playing another Sudoku or Crossword puzzle.  I used to read a lot. In 2013 I read 73 books and last year only 5. That’s disappointing to me. So I want to read more. At least 12 in 2024. 

Off to stitch with my Thursday group. I’ll check in with others that post, when I get home!

Good Morning! It’s Slow Sunday Stitching over at Kathy’s Quilts. Time to take some slow stitches with needle and thread. I’ve been thinking about a stitching plan for 2024. I’ve heard  of a 24 in 24 challenge. But that’s a bit much for me. So I’ve got 4 current stitches started or planned. I’ve decided to work on my Door Bow on the 24, 25, & 26th of each month. 

The  birdhouse is finished and mittens are close. Next I’ll start on the left bow tail snowman.

I downloaded  Temperature Cross Stitch from Fat Quarter Shop in the middle of 2023 with the plane to do it in 2024. I will track the high temperature at my house and every Sunday, place the previous weeks stitches. 

This is the chart from 2023, but there is a new one on their website for 2024. 

January 1st & 2nd are placed 

Don’t mind the gridding thread. As soon as I get the first two weeks placed, I’ll remove it! 

And Sundays I will stitch  on the Woven Wreath stitch along from Kathy Schmitz. Diann is doing it as are 2 local friends. 

I will work on Grow from Colorado Cross Stitcher on Thursday at my stitching group and Thurs, Friday and Saturday evenings when we stay at home. 

I’m using a new needle minder too!

So, there is my plan! Of course subject to change! 😁 Because I’m a joiner, and I might see something I just must stitch! LOL

ScrapHappy Saturday. 24-1.

This week I used my new planner. Hopefully I will continue to make use of it.  2024 plans are to make Split 9 patches and some zipper blocks. Thanks to Diann @ Little Penguin Quilts, and Cathy @ Crazy By Design and Deb A @ Happy to Be Scrappy , who all played a role in my decision. I love that Angela is doing another quilt along "Hen and Chicks"!  Doesn't that sound like fun. I probably won't do all the blocks, but I will certainly try to peek in and see how everyone is doing. 

This week I sewed 4 green Split 9's and 3 Zipper blocks. There are more in the works. I'm using 2.5"  squares for the Split 9's because I have soooooo many. That will make my blocks a bit smaller than Diann's and so then I will need more. Deb A used 2.5" squares too , so I know it will work. 

I seem to have lots of sort of ugly greens. But in these blocks they work.  I'm glad!

I'm off to visit Scrap Happy Saturday......

Prompt for January 4, 2024

Do you have a favorite appetizer in your family? Can you share the recipe?

In my past life I would have said a homemade dip or cheese ball. Nowadays it’s just Mr Busy and me, our go-to is cheddar cheese, vegetable Ritz crackers, apples and grapes. In fact sometimes that’s our lunch! 

My sister used to make a jalapeño jelly that she would pour over a softened brick of cream cheese. It was delicious! 

Would you rather have Buffalo chicken dip or artichoke dip? Artichoke dip for sure! I’m not a fan of Buffalo spice on chicken wings or in dip!

What do you try first when you go to a party with snacks? Tough one! There isn’t much I don’t eat. Chocolate dipped strawberries, if they are there. If not, then salsa and tortilla chips! 

I have no photos of anything to share, except the progress on this little stitch!  It’s one of the patterns included in the 12 Days of Christmas box from Colorado Cross Stitcher. 

It’s on 28 count Antique White Cashel Linen , and I’m stitching 2 over 2. Two strands of floss over two threads of fabric. Using DMC . 

And I’ve started on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks for 2024. I’ll show those on Saturday at Scrap Happy Saturday.

Happy New Year’s Eve and Happy Slow Sunday Stitching!

I have a new Planner in my sewing space. I should be more organized in 2024!

Today we are having breakfast with friends we haven’t seen in over two years. Covid and weather and other health issues kept us from each other’s company! 

Then Mr Busy and I will come home, I’ll stitch and he’ll watch football. It will be a good day!

        

I found some 28 count cashed linen in my stitching cedar chest. So I decided to dive in and try one of the new patterns that were in the 12 Days of Christmas from Colorado Cross Stitcher. It’s been a bit of a struggle! I haven’t stitched on linen in a long while. I’m stitching 2 over 2 with DMC floss. We’ll see how it goes.
