Another Shade of Teal!

I got one more teal geese migration block done and 3  hollow 9 patches!

The geese migration solid was a gift from a friend! It is very similar to my stash teal, but slightly darker, I tried to use different prints, but there are some duplicates.

And I added a teal/ aqua bunny to table runner #3. This one is a bit different from the other 2, it has a carrot block! I like them so much. I hope the girls will like them too! A little bit of love from grandma.

I think I will make one for myself now!

And another bit of aqua arrived on my porch on Tuesday. I won a ecopeco cutting mat set from One Monthly Goal challenge. Aren’t they pretty! I’ve already made a few cuts and it’s very nice. I like the fact that there is a light side and a darker side.

And stay Healthy!  We just had a report of our first cases of COVID-19 in our county. There are now 20 in Wyoming!  We are lucky, I know, to live in such a rural area.  My kids and grandkids are not. Daughter is in Lakewood CO ( Denver), son is in Phoenix and a granddaugter and great grands there too. Another granddaughter and family in the Orlando area in Florida and a third granddaughter in a ski area in Vermont. She and her fiance are both now unemployed or furloughed or whatever. Hugs to all of you fellow bloggers around the world. We will get through this! And hopefully be a  better world for it!

Quarantine results

Yes, there is a finish!


I did  show my progress on these Easter Bunny table runners last week. I made them for my granddaughters.  All three who are adults and live in different corners of the country. One in Florida, one in Arizona and one in Vermont!

This week I worked on #3. Now you would think that after completing 2 of the same pattern, nearly same colors that I would have it down pat!  Right?  Not!!

Last week, I mentioned that I had not used any teal ( the RSC20 color for March).  Joy from Joyful Quilter, called me out!  She said, "You could have made a teal bunny." She was correct. So as I was pulling fabric for runner number three, I found a piece of Aqua ( not teal but related!).
I also had a variation by Center Street Quilts. She had a tutorial for a carrot block. I used different fabrics for #3. The yellow bunny was my "doh" moment!

The pattern says cut background first. 1" x 5" strips for between the ears and 10 squares (for each bunny)1.25" x 1.25" for the stitch and flip corners to shape the face and ears. Draw diagonal lines on each. Done! 

Not sew fast , Judy. First corner stitched, its not right! I cut all of them at 1.5"!!!!! Luckily I had enough of the yellow to cut another ear piece.

And then I trimmed all 30 little squares, cause there were going to be 3 bunnies on this one!  Luckily I have a Creative Grid ruler ( no affiation) that is my go to trimming tool. 

It has a 1 and 1/4 mark and a really good diagonal. I just lined up the diagonal mark and the 1 1/4 mark in the bottom left corner and trimmed the top and right side.  whew!

Looking at them all on my dining room table has convinced me that I need one too! So that will be a project for one day soon. 

Thinking of all of you out there. Hoping that your and your family are doing fine. Yesterday, they finally closed all public buildings in our state. We have 15 known cases so far. None in our county. 

People are heeding the social distancing mostly. It's hard to go to the grocery store and stay 6 feet away from everyone. The aisles are narrow and the checkouts are close together. Our 2 smaller groceries, Albertson's and Smith's have implemented special shopping hours for 65 and older. There were more folks there than usual, so I am not sure that helped. Maybe as we "settle in" to this new normal it will be better.

Now One Finish and One Not So Much

It's Friday and the 13th!  I'm not usually superstitious, but this is turning out to be a pretty weird Friday!


I awoke at 4:30 am. MDT. It's pretty dark, but my next door neighbor is warming up his company truck to go to work. I had been tossing and turning in the bed for a bit, so I just decided to stay up. I made myself a cup of coffee and proceeded down to the family room to finish sewing the binding on the first of two Easter Bunny Mini quilts or table runner.

So that is my finish for this morning.

Itr's partly clouding out side today. So sorry about the shadow. I quilted this one myself. I usually can mangage to quilt table runners and other small items. I did a serpentine stitch in the borders. It shows pretty well in the above photo.

Then I spied a stencil hanging on my bulletin board above my cutting table. Not sure why I have it. Maybe it was a gift, maybe I bought it thinking I might do it someday. So,  I decided to try. What to mark the fabric with. I have chalk pencils, they did not work. I have white marking pens from Clover, a pink Mark  B Gone, a double ended Mark B Gone and a Blue Fine Point Mark B Gone.  (the newest of all).  The double ended pen and the pink one are now in the trash. They were dried up and/or blunted.  I used the white one on the blue fabric. and the blue fine point on the other three fabrics.

I stitched with matching thread in each different bunny head and echo stitched around the inside of the ears. I like it! Not perfect by any means, but a step forward for me!

This one goes to my granddaughter and her family. They just moved to Florida and I hope it looks a little "beachy" !

Number 2 is on my machine. The serpentine stitching is done. Except for the lengthwise border, I'll do that last.   Now to mark the bunnies.  The background for this one is sunflowers. This granddaughter lives in Vermont. She could use the sunny flowers. It's been a long winter for her and her beau!

I am going to try to get one more finished. I have a granddaughter in Phoenix also, can't leave her out!.

Scrappy Saturday - Teal

I thought I had lots of teal and the other shades. And I do, but not solids. A solid is necessary for the Geese Migration block I have been making each month. I had one teal solid...left over from when Mr Busy and I square danced!  A long time ago! 

And I made 2 hollow nine patches. I do have more pieces cut for more of those.

Thursday, I was at a hand stitching group and mentioned that I needed a 5" X 12.5" chunk of solid teal if anyone had a piece they wanted to trade. They all said they would check at home. One friend delivered and did not want to trade and did not want the left overs returned, so now I have the necessary fabric to make a second Geese Migration block!  Hooray. The color is similar, but I think in the whole scheme of things it will be just perfect.

I also started on my OMG for March. I am making Easter table runners (here is a link to the pattern on the Moda site) for my 2 granddaughters who recently moved away. One is in Vermont and the other just relocated to Florida. I have been melancholy this past week. This will help.

Four more bunnies under construction. I want to get the bunny parts done, because they require 1.25" square to be sewn on the ears and faces and I am using my Pam Bono Angler 2 tool for sewing the angles. I could have drawn the lines on each little white square but there were 40 per table runner. That's 80!  and so I got out this little tool. I have had it for a long time and use it every now and then.

The 2 Bunny Table Runners or Mini Quilts as the pattern calls them will be identical. The granddaughters are sisters and it felt right to do it that way. Maybe the backings will be different, it will depend on what I can find in my stash.

It is not really a Finish!

Ok, so this is not a real FINISH, but it is a goal finished! I have sent blocks to Covered in Love block drive for 2 years, since Jan 2018 ( according to my blog post labels.)  This is the current block. Kat requested true blues, true yellows and white/ low volume. There are 2 different blues, 2 different yellows and 2 different neutrals.

I cut fabric on Tuesday night and then took all the pieces to our group sew on Wednesday. I got all the rail fences done, and 2 blocks completed. Thursday night I finished the eight blocks. They are fun and fast.  Check out Kat's blog to join in the fun.


Now I am on to my OMG for March. Easter Bunny table runners.  I should have a post soon.

March 2020 OMG Goal Setting

I have tons of projects that need to be brought to completion. I have tons of scraps that need to be used up.

But for March I am starting a new project. Both my granddaughters have moved away. Far far away!
One to Vermont and one to Florida. So in an effort to stay connected.....I am going to make two Easter themed table runners using this tutorial.

I think I have enough fabrics in my stash to make the bunnies. I will, probably have to purchase a background.  But they(my granddaughters) are worth it.
