PQ 14.5. Not a quilt and not square!

This one had me scratching my head. All day Sunday I thought of non square quilt idea. Drunkard's Path? Nope it's basically squares. How about stars? Nope, they are based on a square! Little Bricks?  Rectangles, but there are squares in each row to make them even. Pinwheels? HST arranged in a square.  What to do!!! Well, I have to get my February OMG done and posted by the 28th.  So that is first. 

As I sat, leafing through books and magazines, my coffee got cold again!! I need a cup warmer! Wait a minute !  What about a coffee cozy? Like the tea cozy at Jenny of Elefantz only for my mug. Wait!  Didn't Sandra at MMMQuilts make some last year?    Yup!!  I looked up her post and read it again. I could do that. I measured one of my favorite mugs.

It's sitting on a coaster made by our son. 

 I cut a rectangle from a piece of copy paper, a bit taller than my mug and a bit wider too. Rounded the top edges  I searched in my "sewing room" for some fabric. Lots would work. But I found the remnants of a purse I'd made out of some Australian Aboriginal fabric. Loved the fabric but didn't like the pattern, so I took it apart and saved the pieces.  It was already quilted. win-win! All I needed to do was cut a new cream colored lining and a bit of fabric for the top tab and the binding at the bottom (some "coffee word fabric) 

Got busy and this is the result. 

 

Don't you love those Roo silhouettes?  The gray tab on top makes it easy to place and remove. 

Can't wait to try it out.  And if it works well, I'll make another to fit this mug. 

 

It was a free one from our bank, and it's glass. It's bigger than my normal mug and I love it for tea! Some of my teas are pretty ruby colored and the glass allows me to enjoy the color.
