I LIKE Thursday # 82

Good Morning!  I'm here to tell you a bit about last week. What Mr. Busy and I are doing and what makes our lives pretty darn good!  First, we have been enjoying together:

Entertainment:

Joe Pickett on Spectrum Originals. If you like C.J. Box as an author, this follows the book pretty faithfully! If you aren’t a Spectrum customer, it’s an app available on some devices. I hope that it will be on some other widely available service in the future. Watch for it! 

Sweet Magnolias has returned to Netflix for season 2.

I had to go back to the last episode of season to remember why Kyle was in Tyler’s car, cause Season 2 opens with everyone at the hospital!

Cobra Kai…Season 3 still watching. Will Daniel be able to save his dealership?  Will Kreese get his "comeuppance".  Will Miguel and Sam and Robby be friends?

And we have been watching some Olympics, too!  GO !USA! 

 Catch-22.  with George Clooney . A satire of sorts! Kind of fun!

  

Food: 

It's Comfort Food time of year. I found a few less than fresh hamburger buns on top of the fridge. Sometimes stuff gets put up there off the counter and forgotten! So I decided to make bread pudding! It a favorite of Mr. Busy. I don’t do it often. I decided to bake it in a ceramic quiche pan. I thought it would look pretty. Sometimes it's all about "pretty"

Out of the oven, 45 minutes later! It was puffed up almost spilling over the sides of my quiche pan! It did sink as it cooled. Served it with homemade Rum Sauce and ice cream after dinner on Tuesday. It's good, but not great. The ice cream and rum sauce made it almost yummy, but it is thin. Next time, I make it in a square cake pan,. 

I have been trying to catch-up in my sewing room. HST, Crumb blocks, happy blocks for some RSC projects. My Table Scraps for this month is sort of labor intensive so that is taking time, but it is coming together and should be done. No photos! Ok, just a peek! 

And I have been going through some magazines, and patterns. I try to be organized, but I am not as successful at that as I should be.

Mr Busy is doing another puzzle. He finished the Twelve Days of Christmas!

This one is one we started while in California and then put it away cause he had hurt his knee and was not comfortable sitting at a low table. 

He has his puzzle spot all set up now, with two lighted magnifiers and 12 puzzle sorter trays plus an additional sorter that he quickly constructed out of Dollar Store foam board that was in his "stash". 

I'm writing this on Wednesday. We just came home from a quick shopping trip. We stopped at Dairy Queen for the $6 chicken tenders lunch. It's now $7, but still a good deal. Then a short stop at Albertson's for milk, salad dressing, red grapes, guacamole and wine.  Essentials, you know!!

I did a bit of online banking, Mr. Busy is watching a YouTube video. It is windy (24mph) and chilly (45 but feels like 36) outside!  We are warm and toasty in our downstairs family room with the fireplace on. It's electric, but does have a blower so it warms up the room pretty quickly and it "looks and feels cozy"!

Of course there is laundry, kitchen cleaning, and cooking. Also been gathering income tax information! I’m not a fan of that chore.  But on the gratitude side:  I have a roof over my head, a house to clean, clothes and a place to keep them clean, and a financial situation that is enough to provide for us. And allows us the privilege of extras, like fabric, wine, puzzles and lunch out! I need to remember that is not true in many parts of the world or even in our community. We are blessed.

Not a very interesting list but I completed it!  As far as Valentine's Day plans, there are none. Except that the greeting cards have been purchased, last Friday. And they were mailed yesterday. The USPS seems to take longer than before, so my cards to AZ, FL, VT and Northern CA, take more than 3 days. I don't want candy( WW , you know) and I dislike roses (that's a story no body wants to hear). So maybe we will do take out from a normally sit down restaurant, instead of our usual FAST Food place. I'd love to go in and sit down, but our community cases are up. Nobody wears a mask. It's worrisome. 

Next week's looks like this. 

Feb 8 - Feb 14th.

1. Launder and mount Santa Baker. I'll need Mr Busy's help for this one. 

2. Continue working on TSC for February. Aqua and Improv.  Take photos for post at the end of the month.

3. Make balance of HST in red and aqua for the first two rows of Zig Zag Quilt

4. Start a new slow stitching project.

I LIKE THURSDAY!

Good Morning Positivity Posters! I’m joining  LeeAnna @Not Afraid of Color. She give us a place to share, to express gratitude, to put a positive spin on the little things! Visit the bloggers who do the same. LeeAnna shares a  of those who want to participate. 

Food:

I made Zero Point WW Vegetable Soup on Sunday. I’ve been eating it most days for lunch. It fills me up, it warms me up on these cold days. I don’t follow the recipe exactly “ it calls for Swiss Chard. That’s hard to find in the winter in my grocery stores. Sometimes I leave it out all together, some times I substitute spinach or kale. I did learn a trick from a fellow quilter about spinach in soup. Add it fresh to every bowl. The hot liquid wilts it just right and then you don’t have “slimy” spinach in your pot of leftover soup! It works great!

I ordered some spices from Penzys Spices last week and they were delivered on Monday! My sister was a fan and introduced me to them. I like one called Arizona Dreaming. It’s salt free, has a hint of cocoa in Mexican flavors! Good! My sister liked Fines Herbs. (Chervil, parsley,French tarragon and chopped chives) I also ordered 33rd and Galena, a chicken and pork rub, Mural of Flavor, also salt free, and Mulling Spices, because!! 

News:

We have a new quilt shop in our area. It is 100 miles away, but on the way to Rapid City in the town of Spearfish SD. We Wyomingites are used to traveling to shop! I haven’t been there yet, but probably will as the weather warms up and traveling is easier! 

Entertainment: 

Mr Busy is working on a puzzle. I look over his shoulder now and again, but he is doing most of it! 

We finished watching Yellowstone Season 4. Love the scenery, love Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly plays her character so well! Beth sure does have  “potty mouth”! Oh my! 

Then we picked the series Cobra Kai! It’s a take off on The Karate Kid with Ralph Macchio. Ralph Macchio is Daniel LaRusso all grown up. It’s definitely a family friendly story, and fun! 

We also watched…..The Tender Bar on Amazon Prime. 

I liked it. There was a need for a hanky near the end! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

And I’m catching up on This Is Us, and Chicago Wednesday. And The FBI was new on Tuesday! Now the Olympics will be starting on Friday the 4th through February 20th! Lots of Slow Stitching time as I work on the counted cross stitch project! 

 I am playing in the Aqua/ Teal bucket!

February OMG Goal Setting!

 

I’m carrying over Santa Baker! My OMG for February is to finish the outline stitching. Add the metallic thread French knots and back stitching and add the eyes and mouth to the gingerbread cookies. 

I know regular visitors to my blog are tired of seeing this project. Just a bit longer and I should have it done.

To-Do Tuesday #76

 

I'm joining Linda at Texas Quilt Gal this morning, to share my To-do list from last week. It was pretty successful! Let's take a look! I so enjoy have this place to share my to-do's and see how others are doing. Come join us. 

January 25th - 31st

1. Walk 3 days next week for 20 minutes. ✅

 

This is just one photo, but the sky was blue, the sun was shining and it was 49 degrees. Just an eight mile per hour breeze! 

The  surroundings aren’t pretty. But the walk is fairly flat and ice free. So it’s all good. 

2. Quilt and bind January Table Scraps Challenge.✅

3. Continue on the outline on Santa Baker! ✅

4. Make some red/ neutral HST in anticipation of a Zig Zag quilt! ✅

5. If time allows, make another Growing Up Odd block! ❌

See you all next Tuesday, Feb 1st, right after my annual Medicare checkup❌

Monday morning the medical receptionist called and wanted to reschedule my Annual checkup to March. Why? Due to an increased number of Covid-19 Omicron  patients needing to be seen in the office and not wanting to put well patients at risk! I said, “Sure, of course!”.  'Cause we've gone all these months and not been infected. But come on people! Get vaccinated!

I’m looking forward to February. There’s Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, President’s Day and my birthday, followed by my SIL's birthday! I like to decorate for February! 

Next week~

January OMG Finish Link

 

My OMG for January 2022 was to complete this counted cross stitch project that has been ongoing for 20 years. I put it away when I could no longer see to stitch. I have magnifying glasses…..so

January 15, 2022 red Z’s done, outline started

January 22nd.    More outlining complete. 

Today, January 31st. Not done but much closer. I will make this my ongoing OMG until it is finished!

Table Scraps Challenge: January, Snowmen, Red!

 

My table scraps challenge started a tad bit late! We were still in California through the 9th of the month and traveling until the end of day, the 12th. Then there was unpacking and laundry and settling into a routine. So I started my dumping my red scrap bucket! 

Not a lot of promise. 

I finally found a print that filled the bill! Did I take a photo? No! I was on a mission. My original thought was a mug mat for the small table by my chair upstairs. I used the Dandy Candy pattern as a jumping off point. Snowman fabric rectangles and scrappy white rectangles. I didn’t like it, so I added to it to make a small rectangle. Still no pictures!

 What’s  with that, Judy? 

When I thought it was ok, I went looking for a backing. I didn’t want it to be green! Too Christmas-y! As I was digging through my gold/ yellow basket  I happened on this one.

Right then and there a decision was made for the backing and to bind it in the feature fabric. I cut 2.25” strips and voilà! 

Tuesday, the 25th, I quilted it. Then added the prepared binding.  I thought I’d sew it down during TV time Tuesday. It’s FBI Night on CBS. That would work! Nope! The programs were “repeats”!  Mr Busy asked, “ Do you want to finish the last 2 episodes of Yellowstone?”  The answer was an enthusiastic, “Yes”.  But Yellowstone  uses lots of visual clues and expressions, not just dialogue! So the binding was not completed. I finished it Wednesday after lunch, while waiting  to leave the house for Mr Busy’s annual doctor appointment! 

I quilted it with my ever-popular to me, wavy lines in Aurifil gray. #2600

Looking at this photo, it looks like a ladder on the side of a fire truck or a piece of fencing! Maybe I should use it to wave at the TV screen during the Super Bowl.     You know! “DE-FENCE”!! 

Not bad with  my white potted Golden Pothos in the middle of the coffee table!! It’s looks kinda winter-y!
