Slow Sunday Stitching…the real LAST Sunday of June!

I’m having a discombobulated June! Last Saturday and Sunday, I posted that is was the last of June! I’m not sure why I was anxious for July! But I was wrong!!😑 

Last week I said my plan was to stitch on my Winter QAL because it was the week of the 25th. I did not stitch on this at all!

Instead I started a small filler pillow with a Fourth of July theme. It’s this one from Melisa at Pinker n Punkin Quilting that she featured last year. But I love it!

And I didn’t even begin it until Thursday. When I finish, it will join these 3 dough bowl fillers and my Patriotic Chicken Pincushion!

Table Scraps Challenge for June ‘24

 

It’s the end of June! I was mistaken in my RSC post last week, when I said the 22nd was the last Saturday for blue sewing. Maybe I was thinking of only myself! Haha! We have the 29th to sew blue! I’ve been sewing all the leftovers of the blue on my cutting table! Well, maybe not all the leftovers!  But blue crumb blocks were constructed! And blue 5” wide chunks were sewn together. 

The chunks were laid on 9.5” x5” pieces of batting..and loosely quilt with X’s . The navy blue star is 5”x5” and quilted to a piece of batting. Then crumb blocks cut 5x5 were layered to plain 5x5 pieces, pressed wrong sides together to make 4 pockets. Those were basted to the bottom of the 5x9.5 chunks!

Then I went looking for watermelon fabric. Because the prompt for this month was “Watermelon” and blue fabric! 🤔🙄

Whoo Hoo! I found some! 

So, I’ve been wanting a small but not too small crossbody bag to carry my cellphone, wallet, a hankie and maybe some gum or breath mints. I also have a small collapsible hair brush! You know the essentials but not all the other stuff!

What better way to use up my blue scraps! I found this Whistle Pig pattern in my pattern tote. I made the small one. It calls for a charm pack, but I cut my blue scraps and crumb blocks to 5x5. 

This is what happened!

I LIKE Thursday. 6-27-25

 

As an adult, or even a retired adult, now, do you change your routine for the summer? Do you have a grandchild come stay, for instance? Do you go to family yourself? do you tend to stay up later or eat out more, or become more active/less active because of heat? How is your daily routine changed because of the change of season?

My routine doesn’t change much. I do get up earlier because the sun and the birds wake me. And I love to have coffee outside in the morning.  We probably eat out more because it’s warmer and we “go” more. Or we are doing outdoor chores and taking lunch to the park. 

Speaking of coffee outside on the porch! I was doing just that on Monday morning and had an unusual visitor! 

We have had deer, antelope, bunnies, owls and even a snake or two, but never a wild turkey! He even came up on the porch!

Nothing else happened worth taking photos. You might remember that last Saturday I mentioned Mr. Busy was flying RC airplanes. Well, he crashed one of his favorites, Big Red. No photos of that tragedy, but he has been busy repairing it. 

I’m reading this little gem! It’s been on my bookshelf for a few years. It’s a collection of short stories with a Christmas theme.

Slow Sunday Sitching - Last Sunday of June!

 

Last week I told you of a plan for bringing my stitches to Finish. I still am not sure if it works. But we will see. I spent this week working on the temperature heart. You can see that the weather is warming up here. All the yellows, golds, and oranges, definitely warm colors! It might finally be summer! 

Today after enjoying CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley and my morning coffee I will get out the Winter SAL from Stitchonomy. I’m looking forward to stitching on the deck this afternoon. A glass of sun tea and stitching, what could be better!

Scrappy Happy Saturday- More blue!

 

 Last week I shared 4 blue split nine blocks. I made 4 more this week !

Then I mentioned I discovered I would need 120 total zipper blocks. That’s 10 blocks each month! 

Joyful of The Joyful Quilter reminded me that I don’t have to make it that big. I probably won’t either. But because we are using all the blues I made a few more and there are parts cut for a couple more this week. 

I also cobbled together a scrappy flannel backing for the Eat My Dust kids quilt. Well, it’s not quite together, but will be soon. Today, Mr Busy is flying airplanes, so I’m sewing and sewing and sewing! 

I’m going to try to quilt “Princess Jasmine” and “Eat My Dust” myself. It is supposed to be warm this week, so I can spray baste on the back deck! Then some straight line or maybe wavy line quilting! It is doable!

I LIKE Thursday 6-20-24

 Happy First Day of Summer!

Usually it is the 21st of June. But this year the summer solstice is early. For the first time in 200 years! There is science for that! Google it if you are interested.

Actually the time is 3:50 pm CST. The day is 15 hours, 13 minutes and 41 seconds long in Chicago, but 15 hrs and 49 minutes in MST , where I live. Now the days start getting shorter and Fall is on the way!

It’s definitely Summer! 

In Wyoming the kids are fishing

and camping in the back yard!

In Vermont it’s warm enough to go paddle boarding on the lake!

Did I go to summer camp? 

Yes I did. I grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I went to YMCA camp when I was eight. I was terribly homesick. Now we know I was just sick. I ended up with a fever that caused a bout of nephritis. 

I went back the next year and we had good times doing arts and crafts, singing songs, splashing in the pond. I also went to Church Camp as I got older. My family camped too. Trips to Yellowstone National Park, and different places in the Black Hills.

Slow Sunday Stitching

 

Still stitching on the same things. I think I have a plan. The first week of the month I’ll work on the Woven Wreaths SAL

June is done . Here is the whole project so far!

The designs are printed and begging for thread enhancement! Next is July, the bird next to the watering can. 

The second week, I’ll concentrate on the Spring String from Lizzie Kate! And the Temperature Heart!

A through Q

The 3rd week?  Nothing is on my planner! A new “start”?  A “fully finish”?   We will see!

The last week of the month because it includes the 25th, I’ll work mostly on the Winter SAL and catch up on the Temperature Heart!
