Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL Check-In!

My Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL throw flimsy is complete. I need to make an appointment with a long arm quilter, and decide on a backing. That’s next week’s to-do!

I’m not ultra thrilled with the sprinkle border, it’s a bit light for my taste. But with the medium gray sashing , the border selections in my stash were limited. I’ll frame it with a dark binding. Maybe purple, or red, or even a black stripe if I can find one.

1. Finish sashings, cornerstones and border for Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL. ✅

Watch for my post on the 15th for the final check in. 

2. Think about a TableScraps Challenge entry using blue, and D and or I!   Nope

3. Mail box to Little Lambs. Label is printed. Quilts are labeled,washed and dried. My box isn’t quite full, so get some diapers to add to it! ✅

Here is a copy of the label. They should have received it yesterday! 🤞

4. Commit to Positivity quilt or bow out gracefully!  No Decisions made yet!

5. Sew Zig Zag rows together! Nope!

I spent part of Saturday with some quilting friends. These were a few Show and Tells.

This is so cute. She made it bigger than the original for their RV, and quilted on her sit down Juki TL-2200QVP. 

A graduation quilt for a niece! Lucky lucky girl!

And this one webbed and finished in one Saturday session of our Quilt Chicks gathering!

Here’s hoping next week is better!

Slow Sunday Stitching Bluebirds

Kathy shared a bevy or a flock of bird stitcheries. I’ve been enjoying the bluebirds in Melisas SPRING Stamps! I’m working on #8! So done soon.  Linking up with Kathy’s Bird Parade a bit late today, but you know!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge ~ June

There was a bit of blue sewing this week! Some string blocks, crumb blocks with the bitty pieces and still more in the light/ medium blue sub-bin!  

It’s amazing to me that this little bucket of scraps will make at least 4 more string blocks and the bits left over will yield some extra blue crumbs! 

Linking up at So Scrappy.   And in case your keeping track, I didn’t sew on the ZigZag quilt at all, or decide what to do with Tiny Tuesday. I did get all the rows of Rainbow Neighbourhood done! 

Every long arm quilter I talked to was not taking appointments! So I’m at an impasse! It’s summer and people are busy.

Finished or Not Finished Friday

I always feel badly when I don't have anything to show for my time in the sewing room. I seem to "piddle away", but not much to show. 

I am participating in Sandra's Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL It's been so much fun.  I'm working on the sashing and sewing rows together. 

On the design wall - not very straight. I have to climb on a stool to reach the top of the flannel. I am unsteady so it's not a chore I do over and over. Up, place, pin and down. You get the idea. 

I also finished the last month of stitcheries. December of A Year in the Garden. I've been working on these little beauties for a few years.

I Like Thursday ~Ice Cream Memories

Last Friday was our anniversary and we did go out to eat, but Mr Busy surprised me with this Propane Fire Table. It is something I’ve wanted for awhile. It came with lava rock! 

This is it’s breaking-in fire! 

We quickly upgraded to blue glass chips! I love it!

Monday night I finished stitching this last block from Jenny of Elefantz’s A Year in the Garden  

I did it while we watched Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation on  Mountain of Movies streaming on Paramount+

tell us about a favorite memory from childhood of eating ice cream. Did your family go to Dairy Queen like mine did? 

There was a DQ in our town, but it wasn’t a place that we went often. The place to go was Fjord’s. A specialty hard ice cream shop, locally owned.sadly it’s no longer in business  in my hometown! It had to be a very special occasion to afford an ice cream cone there. There were 6 of us, my dad was self employed and my mom didn’t go to work til I was in HS. We were not wealthy!

Did you have a birthday ritual where you got anything you wanted at the restaurant?  

Not really! Birthdays did not involve eating out. My mom’s fried chicken and mashed potatoes was my requested meal! And chocolate cake served on this cake stand.

Here we used it for cupcakes for Miss B’s 6th birthday last July! Mom always made a chocolate layer cake!

 A ritual as I was an adult was, my son and daughter- in-law always bought a coffee ice cream cake from Coldstone. We didn't have a Coldstone in our small town. They lived in Phoenix and we would sometimes visit on my birthday. 

Has your taste changed from tutti-fruitti with sprinkles or does it still make your hear sing? 

I never liked tutti-fruition or and other fruit ice cream. The only exception was on my mom’s birthday, she requested orange sherbet, we all ate that! 

remember neopolitan three flavor ice cream bricks? I'd did out the chocolate first leaving the strawberry and vanilla for the folks! 

We sometimes had Neopolitan . My dad liked it I think. He would open the half gallon rectangle carton, unfold it flat and cut slabs of ice cream that had all three flavors. Sort of like this: 

They don't make ice cream in the paper rectangle carton anymore. Now it's in a "scround" and it's not a half gallon. Only 1.5 qts for the same price. But that a discussion for another day.

TO-DO Tuesday #143

I’m joining a group of list-makers and To-Do Tuesday participants at Carol at Quilt Schmilt-For the Love of Fabric. My last week was mostly good. 

May 30th - June 5th

1. Start on leaf blocks for Preeti's Positivity QAL. ❌. 

Something just keeps taking precedence. And I have not made one single cut! 

2. Decide on a OMG for June and post about it ✅

 I decided to work on getting ZigZag to the finish line. At least to the point of a date with a quilter! My post is Here

3. Double check the RSC 23 color for June.  And see what the associated UFO's are from my list. ✅. 

Angela wrote that if we were finished with dark or bright blue, to go on to light blue or green. So I chose light blue ! My projects are ZigZag and Tiny Tuesday!

The ZigZag rows need to be sewn together! 

Tiny Tuesday needs backing and batting!

4. Try to finish the December Year in the Garden Block, so I can begin to think about a quilt pattern to use. 

I see after taking this photo there is a tiny place on the left of the basket, that still needs a couple of stitches! I’ll do that quickly this morning. 

5. Stitch on Spring Stamps✅ 

The borders for #7 are complete and #8 & 9 will be soon.
