I like Thursday ~~ pumpkin recipes

My I Like Thursday post is late this week. I’m attending a 3 day retreat. It's local and we sleep at home, and I go home to fix supper also! ( Some of the women stay til the library closed at 9 pm. )

We have a bit of snow this morning. Always the first few snows are iffy in the driving arena. Everyone has to remember to slow down a bit, don’t try to brake in a hurry, etc! There will be fender benders!

My holiday cacti are blooming

This one has pointy leaves and pointy petals. I believe that makes it a Thanksgiving Cactus.

This one has different leaves and pink rounder petals. I think it is classified as a Christmas Cactus.  I guess it does depend on who you ask or what you read. But no argument, they are beautiful!!

I started cutting into the “ I Believe in Angels chart pack that I won from Texas Quilt Girl!  And some assembly happened at our retreat.

And now that I am home from retreat, here is the table topper,  I will look in my stash for an appropriate backing fabric and find a long thin piece of batting and will get it quilted soon.

Another like is finally a win in three tries this morning. Actually about 2:15 am when I couldn't sleep. My second word gave me the biggest clue!!

LeeAnna’s prompt this week is pumpkin recipes. I have a favorite. I tried this several holiday seasons ago. Our eldest granddaughter is dairy intolerant and also maintains a gluten-free diet. So I substitute GF flour blend and vegan butter. Also using 3/4 cup of almond milk reduced down to about 1/2 in place of the evaporated milk. I have had success in just using 1/4 cup of almond milk ( not reducing). Some of you are better chefs than I am, but it has worked for me.

If you can't decipher my "chicken scratches", just ask via email. jdyblr6107 "at" gmail "dot" com

I hoping to gather some other good pumpkin recipes by reading all the posts of the I LIKE THURSDAY participants.

To-Do Tuesday # 112

Every week, I try to complete a short to-do list. Mostly, I'm successful. The process helps keep me focused in my sewing room. I have a tendency to get distracted. So, I am grateful for Linda and her hosting of this forum to commit and to complete. If you want to join in, just visit Linda at Texas Quilt Gal, click on her cute couple in the header and get started.

Last week, my list was short. And BORING!

1. Sew More Flying Geese.✔️

I'm on the last bunch:  Red Geese/White Wings! Waiting to be trimmed

2.  Get ready for 3 day Sleep-At-Home Retreat at the library next week! ✔️
I checked my travel bag, and travel machine.
I think I have everything!

3. Keep stitching on Autumn Stamp SAL and  FQS’s Christmastime Mystery SAL!✔️

Autumn Stamps is coming along:

Christmastime is progressing too!

Nov 1 to Nov 7.     The 1st through the 3rd, I’ll be retreating! So my list looks like this!

October Table Scraps Challenge! Ready for Christmas!

This month the challenge had me wondering what to do in light/bright green. I knew there were lots of greens in my scrap basket! I like green! But what pattern? I had great success with Dandy Candy in July!

Then I remembered I had a second charm pack of Holly Jolly by Sandy Gervais. Reds, lime greens, creams, aquas. I pulled just the mostly greens. Threw in some reds with green and one charm of cream with red, green  and aqua dots! Picked a white snowflake fabrics for the dividing strips. I would have liked to use a more beige fabric, but this is what I had.

I put this together at the 3-day Sleep at Home retreat!  A good one to do. It requires very little concentration, which allowed me to visit and join in the camaraderie.

When I got home I made a pieced batting (no photos)and pieced a backing. The larger piece on the right that looks like a brick wall is left over from my son’s 50th birthday quilt. It’s a Latifah Saafir  fabric called Grafic! I love it!  Ooh! You’re getting a really good look at my messy cutting area! I’m a bulletin board stashed. Always have been, even when I was working!

It needed a little bit more length…so I added some red from Holly Jolly. I had red with tiny dots for binding! Will that work? Hope so!

You can see I did my go to red serpentine stitch, lengthwise. As I stitched the last of the binding down, I started to really like this happy little runner. I had planned to donate it to our library for their Silent Auction. Lord knows they need the support from the community right now! Saying that, I think I will take it to them. And maybe the other one on my design wall, if I can get it quilted in time. I think I have till Monday!

I love this Dandy Candy pattern from Pieced Tree Patterns. Thanks Nancy from Grace and Peace Quilting for recommending it.

I have had so much fun participating in this Table Scraps Challenge hosted by The Joyful Quilter. I’m definitely going to participate next year, if Joy decides to host again. I’ve got lots more scraps and lots more surfaces that need coverings!

I'm linking up with The Joyful Quilter and her Linky Party today. Go check out all the other completed Table Scraps!
