Table Scraps Challenge March-Flowers-Yellow

 

March came in “Like A  Lamb”where I live. The weather was mild. I was excited for the color yellow selected by Angela at So Scrappy. And Joy from The Joyful Quilter, gave the prompt flowers! I’m ready for flowers. I dumped my yellow scrap basket.!

After making some RSC blocks, I started on my table scraps project. There were lots of scraps. This rail fence pinwheel, used some gold! 

Using the same yellow, gold, and pink print I made  four hourglass blocks!. But I cut the original squares at 4.5” instead of the 4.25” as the directions read! Drat! 

So I remade the hourglass block in a different yellow! 

Then a churn dash block with some daisy fabric and a scrap of sunflower fabric. I had sunflowers on my mind.  🌻 for 🇺🇦! 

 Next a two toned pinwheel block. 

Then a simpler gold batik 9 patch.

Finally a spotted Ohio Star variation! 

Then I quilted with my favorite serpentine stitch! 

 

I decided to bind this little table topper with the backing, I had originally decided to use the same  fabric for the binding. So it’s only a change in technique. I followed this Tutorial  at Cluck Cluck Sew.

Allison used pins, but I normally use Wonder Clips. I especially like these wider ones on the corners for this technique. 

Don’t mind the pearl headed pin! It’s my reminder to finish a half a line of quilting!  

And it's done!

And a close up of the label. A triangle scrap frame a string block, written with green Sharpie and fused on with wonder under and secured with some wonky X stitches with variegated floss! 

A final resting place. 

On the coffee table in the living room. Complete with some “fake” sunflowers! Probably they are really rudbeckia! In yellow and an orangey red!

Mr. Busy has been watching movies! I’ve been sewing and reading. 

I’m reading this DNF (Did Not Finish) from 2017. I put it away! It was too depressing! I picked it up again when I finished Devoted, March 15th.

I'm enjoying it this time. It's #1 in a series. I haven't heard any reviews of the other two. Lost Roses and Sunflower Sisters. Have you?

Last night we watched a Netflix Documentary series called Animals.  One was Apes, narrated by Andy Serkis.  It was so interesting and the scenery so pretty. The second one was called Birds of Prey narrated by Anthony Mackie.  That one was really fantastic.

TASKS:

    TAXES  are done……a small refund most of which was then paid back to the tax preparer! 

The difference was enough to partially take us out to lunch at a new restaurant. 👍👍

So I guess we broke even. That is always our goal! 

DECLUTTERING:

Four bags of clothing, taken to our second hand store.  That feels good!

COOKING:

I did not cook anything new, unusual or even exceptionally good this week!  Some weeks are like that. You just do the usual.  So not much else to mark or make note of. Always there is gratitude for just the ordinary. 

SEWING:

March 15 - March 21

1. Begin quilting on Ninja Friends ✅

Started and completed!

It's easier to see the quilting from the back. It's all done. And the binding is nearly complete.

2. Get Table Scraps Placemat  layered and basted.✅

It's layered and basted and quilted.  A tiny peek. 

My go-to serpentine stitch. Corner to corner in each block and horizontal and vertical seams. Easy peasy! 

3. Keep stitching on August - Year in the Garden ✅

Just a few lazy daisy stitches and some final leaves to fill in the empty spaces. 

4. Get documents organized for tax preparer! ✅ Not only did I get organized, an appointment was made for today at noon. 

Next Week

March 22- March 28

1. Finish TSC  and post to The Joyful Quilter

2. Start quilting in Chunky Churn Dash for H2H donation!

3. Keep working on Growing Up Odd blocks!

Slow Sunday Stitching.

 

Last week I was stitching on this lovely from Jenny of Elefantz.  It's been going pretty quickly as I sit with Mr. Busy and watch movies in the evening. 

This is as of this morning. Close to the finish line for August!

I also have this binding to do. So that will be my project today. Probably while we have our family ZOOM call and then while watching TV. We are not basketball fans, so no March Madness for us. Though it was fun to know that the Wyoming Cowboys from the University of Wyoming were at the big dance!  Sadly they lost to Indiana on Tuesday night. 

Whatever we end up watching. I'll be sewing binding on the cute little quilt, I've named Ninja Friends!

It will be a donation quilts, as there are no babies in the wings in this family! At least not that I know of! Lol!!

ScrapHappy Saturday March 19

 

Last week I showed most of my yellow sewing for Rainbow Scrap Challenge. All this last week I’ve been working on my Table Scraps Challenge. I’m not ready to show the final finish yet but here are some of the components. 

That swirly dotted yellow and pink has been in my stash for ages! 

Then there were these. 

More gold and pale yellow!

Bright dotty yellow and a “blah” yellow! 

Yellow with gold and red dots! This Ohio Star variation was differently pieced than usual!

This might be my favorite block! I like churn dash block always!  The goldish daisy print is some left over from the graduation quilt I made for our youngest granddaughter. The sunflower scrap was leftovers from the backing on an Easter Table Runner, made for her two years ago.

And the second hourglass block, cause I “mucked” up the first one. Next Saturday I will have the finished topper ready to show! Promise!

Entertainment:  

We finished Season 1 of  Reacher! Alan Ritchson is a hunk!  

Jack Reacher, a veteran military police investigator, has recently entered civilian life when he is falsely accused of murder.

I finished this book and rated it 5 stars! It’s a thriller if that’s your genre!

Mr. Busy finished his puzzle! It’s now back in the box ready to be shared with a friend ! 

Food: I did make date bars, half a recipe. I didn’t even have quite enough dates so added raisins. They are good but not pretty! No photo!  I always have trouble with making an oatmeal crumb topping! It’s always dry!  And crumbly ( not in a good way)! 

I did not make this pi pie! 😆 But I wish I would have! 

And I practiced making Reubens for supper tonight. I found a pre package duo of sliced corned beef and Swiss, a half a loaf of marble rye and small jar of sauerkraut plus the best Thousand Island Dressing.(He prefers 1000 Island to Russian,which is classic) Mr Busy deemed my Tuesday night practice as worthy of a St Patrick’s Day do again!  So! Reubens for supper it is! 

There are lots more things to like this week, but they are ordinary. Sun shining, snow melting, a phone visit with daughter. A good dentist visit for Mr. Busy! He has an underlying condition that requires him to use an anti anxiety med + Benadryl + Nitrous Oxide gas just to get his teeth cleaned. He has a fabulous dental team!

And I’ll be stitching with a few friends this morning, I’m almost finished with the Jenny of Elefantz Year in the Garden for August! Lots of lazy daisy stitches left! And a few X details! Oh, and a couple of leaves I missed! 😊

To-DO Tuesday #82. Happy St Paddy’s Day

 

🍀🍀 Good Morning! I’m linking up with Linda at Texas Quilt Gal, hosting To-Do Tuesday. Here we share our list of projects to work on. Let’s see how well I did last week! 

 March 8 - March 14th.

1. Try to get 2 small quilts spray basted! It will depend on the weather.✅ I did get them both done. No photos of actual process, but….

2. Finish constructing yellow zigzag row.✅ 

3. Sew 4 Happy blocks for ScrapHappy Saturday! ✅  

4. Sew at least one yellow placemat block! ✅

I did this block then realized I cut the beginning squares at 4.5” instead of 4.25”.

 So it’s 7” and needs to be 6.5”! Back to the drawing board!  So I did this one! There is a sneak peek at an attached block, but the final reveal is the last weekend of March! 😊

My goals for the upcoming week.
