Finished and Not Finished

 Last week I worked on 2 different challenges. Obviously I’m not as good at multitasking as I once was. 

For Project Quilting 16.3 the prompt was use 3 common blocks in your project. ✅

For Stay At Home Round Robin (SAHRR) Round 3 was ‘use Stars”

PQ needed to be completed by Sunday. So I mostly worked on this placemat. It is done and I posted it to Quilting Gail on Thursday. I finished the binding at my Thursday Stitchers group. 

I also decided on 4.5” finished Friendship Stars for SAHRR. I used a chart I found at Generations Quilt Patterns  I wasn’t looking forward to  cutting and sewing all those small HSTs. I read that some participants used their AccuCutter. I have one, but don’t have a lot of dies. I find them to be very expensive. However, a blogger friend did sent me some used ones that she ended up not wanting. I gladly and gratefully accepted them. I had one that cut triangles and squares for 2 1/2 inches pieces making a 6.5” star. I had decided that was too big . But I could cut them, sew the HST and trim them . That seems to work better for me anyway. 

But I took a break to go renew my drivers license and when I returned to my machine I just sewed the pieces i had cut. Egad  Judy!!. I wondered if I could use the correct size little ones in the corners. I need 2 more and use the big one in the middle of the top, bottom and sides. I was planning on rectangles to complete the round. 

Yuk!   Nope!  So back to the drawing board. I printed the chart and grabbed my seam ripper.

SAHRR Round #2 Triangles

 

Anja Quilts is the host for Round 2. She chose Half Square Triangles as the next round for our Stay At Home Round Robin. 

HSTs are a versatile and fairly straightforward block. This is what my block looked like on Monday morning. 

Our daughter and granddaughter were at our house for the weekend. At lunchtime, daughter left to get the oil changed in her car, say goodbye to her daughter and grandkids, and drive home to Loveland , Colorado. Granddaughter’s dad, picked her up, took her to lunch then she went home with him. Tuesday she was back over to spend some time with us. We played 5 games of Rummikub. Wednesday her dad will  drive her to Denver, to catch an early morning flight on Thursday back to Vermont. We have had a great visit.

I’ve been thinking about HSTs. I have a couple of ideas.  I tried pinwheels in opposite corners. 

I didn’t know what Round 3 was going to be and was worried that this might look messy. So back to my fabric tote. I thought I had just enough to make the four patches for two more Jacob’s Ladder sections, with different colored HSTs making the pinwheels. 

Voila!
