I LIKE Thursday 7-25-24

 

Every once in a while, something shows up on Facebook that makes you sit up and take notice! In a good way! I wasn’t familiar with the name John Ortberg, so I looked him up. There is some controversy in his personal life. But I still think this quote is worth thinking about. 

John Carl Ortberg Jr. (born May 5, 1957) is an American evangelicalChristian author, speaker, and the former senior pastor of Menlo Church^[1] in Menlo Park, California, an ECO Presbyterian church with more than 4,000 members.

Gratitude is difficult for me. It shouldn’t be! 

It’s been hazy and very smoky lately. It seems the whole continent is on fire. The sun was bright red-orange as it was setting on Sunday evening.this photo doesn’t do it justice at all. I tried. 

Saturday I wanted salad for supper. We do salads often in the summer. I had 3 chicken tenders in the freezer. I thawed them, then when they were still a bit frosty, I tenderized them . I have a Pampered Chef tenderizer! Do you? 

I seasoned them with some Fajita Seasoning from Penzey’s , added 1 tbls olive oil and three tablespoons lime juice to a small glass dish and marinated for 20 minutes. 4 minutes on the grill and they were done. Sliced thinly, some shredded, they topped a serving of Avocado Ranch bagged salad . Actually only about 2/3 of one tender per serving. I added regular ranch dressing, some red grapes and Ritz Crisps. Yum-O!

The leftovers made chicken salad for lunch the next day.

My tomato plants are beginning to make tomatoes! That always makes me happy!

I have 3 pots in front of the garage. They get good hot sunshine there. I am careful about watering them daily, sometimes twice a day. Today is predicted to be a high of 103 and windy! I may move them to the side of the garage today only. 

I bought this hanging basket of petunias at Home Depot in June. I put them on the back deck, the north side of our house. They hated it there. So I deadheaded the spent blossoms, bought a large pot, and just set them into the pot. On the south side of the house. Much better!

do you like roadtrips in the summer? tell us about one you've taken

We used to take lots of road trips. After our kids were adults and had moved out of the house we bought a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. We had the best times on that Honda. We traveled around the US. Lots of states we missed, but we were in Glacier National Park in Montana,  Spokane WA, Albuquerque NM, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. We traveled to Niagara Falls, took a ferry across Lake Michigan, all over most of South Dakota and Wyoming. Several years we rode with a group to Medora,  North Dakota to attend the Medora Musical. If you get a chance to do that, do it! So I told you about lots of trips, not just one. 🤣
